A familiar face will soon be holding the leadership reins of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
Michael Leavitt — who formerly served as Utah governor and U.S. secretary of health and human services — will become the beloved choir’s president on Aug. 26.
The announcement was made on Friday, Aug. 6.
Leavitt has spent the past several decades in public service, and in the public eye. He was elected to three terms as governor of Utah and then twice in the Cabinet of President George W.
WASHINGTON — A British startup says that it can build and launch cubesats for a fraction of the cost of traditional approaches, a concept that has won support from the European Space Agency.
Open Cosmos, a company based in Harwell, England, offers spacecraft design, launch and related services for cubesats as large as 12 units. The company says its all-inclusive costs start at £500,000 ($637,000) for a 3U cubesat, which it claims is as little as one-tenth the cost of alternative providers.

The Russian government will ban production of goods using genetically modified organisms (GMOs), Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich was quoted as saying Friday.
"The question is complicated, but the decision was made: We are not going to produce any food products using genetically modified organisms," Dvorkovich said at an agricultural forum, the Prime news agency reported.
GMOs in agriculture have become a controversial issue worldwide, with several dozen nations banning their import or use. Critics of GMOs say they are potentially hazardous to human health and the environment, but many scientists oppose limits on their use, insisting GMOs have been used for years and are perfectly safe.
