Boise, ID (CBS2) — On January 1, 2023, Make-A-Wish Idaho will be holding the 20th annual Gebert-Arbaugh Polar Bear Challenge at Lucky Peak at the Spring Shores Marina (74 Arrowrock Rd in Boise). The Challenge will be at 11 am Day- of registration begins at 10 am. This year's event will include a costume and mustache contest as well as waterskiing. Some of the prizes will be American Airlines AAdvantage Points, Idaho Botanical Garden Event Vouchers, Idaho Steelheads Tickets, Dave & Buster's gift cards, and more.

A young boy drowned in Lake Erie after he was hit by a freak wave and washed out to sea as he picked up shells on the beach. Hunter Ebie, 11, was only paddling in ankle-deep water in Conneaut, Ohio, and was bending over to grab a shell when the wave grabbed him at around 1.30pm last Friday. California's iconic Joshua trees in the Mojave National Preserve have been severely damaged by a wildfire that has been burning since last week, officials said. The York Fire has been mostly contained as of Friday, but several trees were burned.
